About the Friends of Museums of Kythera

The scope of the Association is as follows:

1. Study and protection of antiquities, monuments but also of the cultural and human-made environments of Kythera & Antikythera, in general;
2. Support of all efforts to promote the historical, archaeological, cultural and technological heritage of Kythera & Antikythera;
3. Raising of awareness of the broader audience about the history of art and culture of Kythera & Antikythera of all eras and support to persons, groups, and organizations of artistic creation;
4. Strengthening and forging of communication among communities of Kythera & Antikythera and the Diaspora;
5. Establishment and smooth operation of Museums – organizing the historical memories of our people (Archaeological, Byzantine, Folk Art, Maritime, Migration, Beekeeping, a.o.) and the Archaeological Museum of Kythera in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and its competent bodies;
6. Enrichment of collections of the Museums of Kythera (those operating and those that will be established);
7. Repatriation of items found during excavations in the broader area of Kythera and Antikythera (land and sea) and placement in the Museums of Kythera.
