Friends of Museums of Kythera

THE FRIENDS OF MUSEUMS OF KYTHERA (FMK) is a non-profit organization established in 2012 and is based on Kythera. The Association’s original aim was to canvass for the restoration and re-opening of the Archaeological Museum of Kythera following its closure in 2006 due to structural damages following an earthquake. The FMK’s intervention led to the museum finally re-opening its doors to the public in 2016.

Since then, our Association promotes the historical, archeological, cultural and technological heritage of Kythera through various events such as presentations, field excursions, seminars etc. The social nature of these events successfully brings together Kytherian residents, both local and of non-Greek background, as well as Kytherians of the diaspora.

The establishment of a Migration Museum of Kythera at Agia Pelagia, is the current challenging project undertaken by the FMK in collaboration with the Municipality of Kythera.
